Get Stuck In

Get Stuck In – Blackburn with Darwen’s HAF initiative is committed to ensuring that all children in BwD have access to healthy food, engaging activities, and supportive services during the school holidays. The programme aims to address the holiday experience gap that low-income households often face and support the overall wellbeing of children and their families, with free places on the scheme for those who are eligible for free school meals.

Through Get Stuck In, HAF providers work to ensure that children receive nutritious meals, participate in physical activities, make new friends, and engage in fun and engaging activities that promote their development. In addition, the programme aims to increase children’s understanding of food, nutrition, and other health-related issues and help them feel safe and secure during the holidays.

Families can also benefit from the programme when HAF providers include their needs in planning and delivering activities. This can include opportunities to participate in cookery classes, access health services, and receive information about employment and education opportunities.

The Get Stuck In programme is available to school-aged children from reception to year 11 who receive benefits-related free school meals. This includes children who are in need, at risk, or vulnerable, as assessed by their school or local authority, young carers, looked-after children, and previously looked-after children.

If you are interested in participating in the Get Stuck In programme or would like more information, visit the Get Stuck In website or contact your local authority for details on how to sign up.
